Day 59 – Apr. 05 Mauritius, Republic of Mauritius

Port Louis, Mauritius

The beautiful island of Mauritius boasts moonscaped mountains that dominate the island’s interior, surrounded by wild gorges, sweeping fields of green sugar cane and casuarina fringed coves.  – CUNARD’S PORT OF CALL

Mauritius was created before Paradise came into being, and served as an example for the later.  –  MARK TWAIN, April 1896

From our balcony on the QV, Mauritius did appear to be a beautiful island and Port Louis appeared to be a quaint town.  So, we decided to strike out on our own to explore.  We took a shuttle from the dock to the Caudan Waterfront.  We intended to pick up a few items we needed but, once we got inside the shopping center, it began to pour.  We wandered the mall hoping it was just a short shower.  After a couple of hours shopping, we went to a restaurant for lunch and still it rained.  Finally we gave up, pulled on our ponchos and headed back to the ship through the storm.
