We intended to begin our stay in Hong Kong by doing an errand for grandson, Kevin. At first we thought that we had found a store that carried what Kevin wanted just a few blocks from the cruise terminal. So we beat a path over there only to find that we had to wait until 11:00 am for the store to open. Every cloud does have a silver lining though and in this case it was the store’s excellent free WiFi. When the store finally opened we were able to video chat with Kevin and, unfortunately, we learned that, although this store carried similar clothing to what Kevin was looking for, it was not the real deal!
So, we needed to get from the cruise terminal to Causeway Bay. Our intention was to take the underground but, after finally finding the underground station, we were informed that there was an accident on the line and the train to Causeway Bay was not running. Kevin’s errand would have to be put off to the next day. We returned to the QV to wait for our evening excursion.
Our evening trip was to begin on an old-time tram which is a double-decker single car railway vehicle that operated by over head electrical lines. Our tour had a tram reserved for our party. Half of the upper deck was open air for convenient picture taking. The plan was that the tram would take us through downtown Hong Kong, through the financial district and the Chinese shops and drop us at Causeway Bay where we would have dinner. (It did occur to us that maybe we would pass Kevin’s store and we could check that off our list … but it was not to be.)
So, after the tram dropped us off, we went to a very nice restaurant for an eight course Chinese small plate meal. Then we visited one of Hong Kong’s famous night markets, the Temple Market where you can find just about anything and then returned to the QV.
