On this visit we decided to go full tourist and visit a couple of Auckland’s biggest attractions.
Our first stop is Kelly Tarlton’s Underwater World & Antarctic Adventure. Kelly Tarlton was a deep sea diver and Antarctic explorer who died shortly after this tourist venue was completed.
In the first part of this adventure is we were able to view actual tools and other artifacts from the 1911 Scott Antarctic expedition.
Next we had a a visit with a captive colony of penguins.
The final section is intended to recreate what it is like to scuba dive with sharks, stingrays and other sea creatures. This is accomplished by building acrylic tunnels through a large deep sea aquarium. It is quite effective and in places does really give the feeling that you are swimming among some fairly large denizens of the deep!
Next we were taken to the Auckland SkyTower. As a high rise adventure this really didn’t compare with the Burj Kalifah but from the 51st and 60th floors we were able to get some excellent views of downtown Auckland and the Auckland Port.
We visited Auckland on our 2017 World Cruise and you can review our blog about that visit here: http://whereintheworldarefrancesandrandy.com/day-19-auckland-new-zealand-february-8-2017/
