DAY 110 – LA PAZ, MEXICO – MAY 9, 2017
“When Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes sailed into this quiet little bay in 1535, he tried to establish a colony called Santa Cruz. He later abandoned it but, luckily, Sebastian Vizcaino arrived in 1596, renamed it La Paz and the colony has flourished ever since. Here, you’ll find a playground of activities that Cortes couldn’t even dream of. From a festive downtown full of attractions to sun-drenched beaches, renowned for their soft, golden sand, to warm, inviting water teeming with marine life, La Paz offers a little bit of everything for everybody. And isn’t that what vacations are all about!?” – Princess Patter
The port in La Paz is a half hour by bus from the town. So, there wasn’t much to see from the ship but after we got into town, we began by visiting the Regional Anthropology & History Museum. Unfortunately, we were unable to take pictures in the museum. It was a nice little museum but our guide, Rodriguio, as marine biologist, was passionate and knowledgeable about the history and archeology of the area.
Then we went to the Cathedral de Nuestra Señora de la Paz …
And the Cultural Center. which had three exhibits. One on the Madonna, one on boxers from the area and another on a local card game that is somewhat like Bingo …
Then we went down to the waterfront …
Frances was especially taken with the garbage bins …
And then back to the Ship. This was our last port before returning to Los Angeles and flying home …
