Day 1 Feb. 06 – San Francisco (Embarcation)

The Golden Gate
San Francisco is ‘everybody’s favourite city’ and as you sail in under the Golden Gate Bridge it is not difficult to see why. Located in the beautiful region of Northern California on the Pacific Coast, its hilly streets give striking glimpses of the bay and its famous bridges. Watch the white fog envelop the Golden Gate, discover fantastic food, local wines and enjoy glorious views in this vibrant city. Take a panoramic tour, a boat trip to Alcatraz and the pretty resort of Sausalito or explore the majestic giant Redwoods of Muir Woods.  Whatever you choose to do, one thing’s certain – you’ll want to come back!

We boarded the Cunard (pronounced ‘Q-nard’) Ocean Liner Queen Victoria at San Francisco’s Pier 27 around 2:00 pm on February 6th.  We were immediately directed to our cabin and spent the next hour or so unpacking our bags and stowing our gear.  We then dressed for dinner and, yes, we dress for dinner each night.  We dine at a table for eight with two Americans from Fremont, CA, and four Brits.

After diner we went back to our cabin and out on the balcony to watch the ‘Sail Away’.  The Queen Victoria cast off at about 8:30 and sailed through the Golden Gate at about 9:00 pm.

So, WE’RE OFF!!!
